Zaragoza, the fifth biggest city in Spain and the capital of Spain’s autonomous region of Aragón, is the first Spanish city to launch NFTs. It is well known for its various museums, historical landmarks, beautiful landscapes, and stunning markets.
In an effort to engage with citizens, The Zaragoza City Council recently released NFTs for the Fiestas del Pilar. Visitors to the site could win NFTs from Cabezudos de la Pilara, El Berrugón, and La Forana, three cultural events that take place in Zaragoza.
Zaragoza is also taking the reigns on one of the hottest topics right now – digital property. The city teamed up with Next Earth, a site selling virtual land around the world on the blockchain. The land is a virtual replica of the Earth, and buyers can purchase virtual real estate anywhere across the globe, such as a plot of land in the city of Zaragoza. Land tiles are bought with $BNB, the native token of the Binance Smart Chain. The platform also donates 10% of each sale to environmental causes like The Ocean Cleanup, Kiss the Ground, and Amazon Watch.
In addition to the NFTs for cultural events and virtual land NFTs, Zaragoza announced earlier this month the auction of an NFT collection of 3D pieces of the Bigheads, based on well-known popular characters in the city. They NFTs were created by some of the best designers in the country, and marked the city’s innovative entry into the NFT space.
